The grass doesn’t care whether there’s fuel in the tin or whether the cord starts on the first pull. But on a petrol mower, that routine comes before you cut a single strip.

Count the steps before the first strip

Petrol doesn’t keep forever

Fuel left in the tin or the tank for months can go stale, and stale fuel is a common reason a mower won’t start when the grass takes off again in spring.

Battery power skips the petrol stages

  1. Charge. Charge the batteries like a phone.
  2. Start. Clip one in and press the start button.
  3. Mow, then switch modes. Mow the open grass, then trim and edge.

Honest note: charging still takes a little planning, and the lawn still needs its usual check for sticks and stones before you start. It’s made for suburban yards. For acreage, a ride-on makes more sense.
