The open grass is the easy part. It’s the rough line along the fence, the path and the garden bed that makes a freshly cut lawn look unfinished, and sends you back to the shed for another tool.

A lawn is really three jobs

Mowing handles the open grass. Trimming handles the tight spots: along the fence, round trees, pots and posts. Edging cuts the clean line where the lawn meets a path or a bed. They’re different jobs, which is why an ordinary mower doesn’t finish the lot.

  1. Mow. Cut the open grass.

  3. Edge. Switch again for the line along the path and the beds.

Honest note: it’s one mode at a time, so the lawn still takes three passes, just not three machines. It’s made for suburban yards. For acreage, a ride-on makes more sense.
